Sweet Alyssum

You may have noticed charming carpets of sweet alyssum’s diminutive flowers, which grow in little clusters (racemes). The flowers have a characteristic sweet honey scent, but are in fact a member of the mustard family, with a characteristic peppery kick on the palate, sweetened gently by the flowers’ pollen. Used in cluster form, Sweet Alyssum makes a statement, but can also be clipped as individual flowers and scattered like sweet Spring confetti.
